Scientific research has shown that an even skin tone can reduce the appearance of age by as much as twenty years.

Young people have an even, luminous skin tone. New skin cells are produced about every 28 days in youth.

But as we age, skin cell turn-over slows down and the skin begins to look dull. Older skin also becomes thinner and sun damage in the form of age spots may appear.

Broken thread veins become visible and skin tone becomes uneven or blotchy, making mature individuals look even older.

Evidence of damage can begin as early as age 25 to 30 when the first effects of photoaging (damaging effects of sunlight on skin) begin to be visible on facial skin.

The good news is that skin tone can be restored and the radiance of youth can be rediscovered. Skin peels and intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) are the modern keys to skin therapy.

These treatments will fade away sun damage and broken thread vein as well as stimulating new skin cell production. Skin tone will be noticeably improved with a freshness that captures the glow of youth.

Science shows that an even skin tone can reduce the appearance of age by as much as twenty years. Unfortunately, a healthy lifestyle cannot hold back time forever.

However there are some non surgical treatments including intense pulsed light (IPL) and TCA skin peels which will help to restore skin tone and rejuvenate the appearance.

How does IPL work? IPL is similar to laser in terms of benefits, but unlike lasers, there is no downtime and less risk of injury.

A broad spectrum of visible light of different wavelengths is used to target melanin and haemoglobin to destroy age spots, sun damage and thread veins.

IPL is administered in a series of four to six treatments every three or four weeks and can be used on any part of the body.

An added advantage of this treatment is that it also stimulates collagen production to improve wrinkles and scars and promotes new skin cell turnover to give a youthful, radiant appearance to the skin.

How do skin peels work?

Skin peels are topically applied formulas that help renew the skin surface by shedding skin cells and also stimulating new skin cell production.

Moderate level TCA peels are used to treat excess melanin caused by sun damage or hormonal factors related to pregnancy and oral contraceptive pills (melasma).

The peels are applied to face, neck/décolleté, hands, or other parts of the body.

TCA peels work by causing sloughing or removal of the upper layers of skin and stimulating new skin cell production. Normally these are the layers that are damaged by the elements such as sun, wind and neglect.

By removing the upper layers of skin, the overall skin texture is dramatically smoothed, superficial wrinkles are quickly eliminated and colour irregularities are improved.

TCA has been used for many years to treat

  • Facial wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Pigment abnormalities
  • Mask of pregnancy and
  • other superficial skin problems such as sun damaged skin. (And this can include precancerous lesions)
  • Acne/acne scarring
  • Freckles
  • Appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and
  • Appearance of superficial scars.

When TCA is applied to the skin, the top layers of cells dry up and peel off over a period of several days.

Smoother texture, more even colour

Peeling generally occurs on Day 3 to Day 5 and is similar to peeling with a mild sunburn.

When the old skin has peeled off, a new layer of undamaged skin is exposed. It has a smoother texture and more even colour.

Treatment is administered in a single session that lastsa around fifteen to thirty minutes. During this time, you may experience a slight burning sensation.

This sensation is so slight, however, no sedation or anesthesia is required.

TCA peels are initially done in a series of four, spaced one or two weeks apart.

Aftercare: After having a TCA peel, the new skin will be sensitive to sunlight for at least six to eight weeks. During this time it is very important to protect the new skin with sunscreens, and hats. Really, you need to avoid strong sunlight.
